Franciszka Themerson: Ubu To You! | Book Launch | 28th June 2024

Join Jasia Reichardt to celebrate the launch of Ubu To You!, a new publication of Franciszka Themerson’s work on Ubu Roi

Ubu To You! is the title of a box which contains two books with Franciszka Themerson’s work on Ubu Roi. The first book deals with Franciszka’s illustrations for the first English translation of Alfred Jarry's play Ubu Roi published by Gaberbocchus Press in 1951. It includes her papier-mâché masks of the characters in the play for the ICA, and the designs for the puppet performance at the Marionetteteatern, Stockholm. The second book is of Franciszka’s designs for her Ubu Comic Strip.

The event will contain a display of material from Tate Library's collection. This includes the original 1951 Gaberbocchus Press Ubu Roi, translated by Barbara Wright, and other publications by Franciszka Themerson, as well as Alfred Jarry.

Tickets are free of charge, please visit the Tate website to book:
